Background

Harvard Law School professor emeritus and prominent appellate attorney known for defending O.J. Simpson and Harvey Weinstein. Served as a member of Jeffrey Epstein legal defense team and played a key role in negotiating the controversial 2008 non-prosecution agreement with the U.S.

Attorney office in Florida, which allowed Epstein to plead guilty to two state charges and serve 13 months with work release. Virginia Giuffre first accused Dershowitz of participating in Epstein sex trafficking in 2014 court filings. Dershowitz mounted an aggressive public defense and filed defamation countersuits.

In November 2022, Giuffre and Dershowitz reached a non-monetary settlement in which Giuffre issued a joint statement acknowledging she may have made a mistake in identifying him. In January 2024, newly unsealed Epstein-related court documents renewed public attention on Dershowitz, who posted video responses asserting the documents would exonerate him. In July 2025, Dershowitz publicly claimed he had seen a full Epstein client list while working on the case.

In August 2025, a federal appeals court upheld a ruling against him in his defamation lawsuit against CNN, finding he had not demonstrated actual malice by reporters. In November 2025, newly released Epstein emails revealed that Epstein privately mocked and ridiculed Dershowitz despite their working relationship. Virginia Giuffre died by suicide in April 2025.

Dershowitz has consistently and forcefully denied any sexual contact with Giuffre or any other Epstein-connected individual.
